27 Mar January Spotlight
This year, SBPLF would like to highlight those we see as participants, advocates, and donors of the Santa Barbara Public Library. Here are our most recent spotlight lineup:
This month, Mayor Randy Rowse dives into history with “Benjamin Franklin: An American Life” by Walter Isaacson. A biography of Franklin’s remarkable journey from self-made printer to Founding Father, scientist, and diplomat, highlighting his lasting impact on America.

Michaela McGinnis, better known as @literally_amazing_sb on Instagram, advocates for reading in Santa Barbara County. Her Instagram highlights Little Libraries around the Santa Barbara and Goleta area, as well as local bookstores and Public Library events.
“The Library is more than just books!” Michaela writes, “There is amazing programming for people of all ages and interests. There are are many types of resources from tech help to job support to the library of things. If you need it, it’s probably at the Library! It’s one of my favorite places.”
Jim Jackson’s commitment to the Library starts with volunteering in the Children’s Library before joining SBPLF as Board President. He continues to advocate for children’s literacy, as the Children’s Library turns 10 this year!
Maker House’s Tile Project was one of many fun activities at Plaza Palooza. From designing to painting tiles, participants got creative and captured the spirit of the community. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to express themselves and take home a piece of the event’s lasting impact!
If you made a tile, you can pick it up at the Co-Lab in La Cumbre Plaza today!
