The Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation Board has been classifed as a California public benefit corporation and is exempt from federal income taxes and California franchise taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and corresponding California Revenue and Taxation code sections

This designation allows private support through gifts, corporate sponsorships, trusts and bequests for the benefit of the Santa Barbara Public Library.

The Santa Barbara Public Library Foundation has reached the Guidestar platinum level profile as a demonstration of its commitment to transparency.
